"Vivid Vision has helped unlock Leo's depth perception for the first time. It has been an important stepping stone for furthering his progress in vision therapy."
At The Center for Vision Development, we are using virtual reality along with vision therapy to treat eye teaming disorders such as amblyopia or “lazy eye” (reduced best corrected vision) and strabismus (eye misalignment). Virtual reality uses computer technology to create a simulated, three-dimensional world so the user can interact with and immerse themselves in that world. Vivid Vision is a cutting edge virtual reality program that utilizes interactive games to treat amblyopia, strabismus, suppression, eye teaming deficiencies and perceptual learning deficiencies. The activities are designed for all ages and can be used in office or at home. In Vivid Vision, you can pop bubbles to improve stereo 3D vision, fly a spaceship to reduce suppression of a weak eye, control a cute chicken to work on convergence, and more!
How Vivid Vision Works
Vivid Vision is a game-changer for patients who otherwise have difficulty appreciating depth perception and stereopsis (3D vision). Leo, 7 years old, stated "Vivid Vision has helped me see things I've never been able to see before." Vivid Vision works by retraining the connection between the brain and the eyes so the eyes work together better. Through the use of virtual reality, vision therapists are able to set specific parameters for each patient and their diagnoses. For example, if the left eye has amblyopia, the therapist may dim or blur the images seen by the right eye so the brain is forced to use and strengthen the eye-brain connection in the left eye. With strabismus, the therapist will adjust the activity so the patient can achieve eye alignment and work in an environment using binocular vision. The possibilities with virtual reality and eye exercises are endless!
